Cleavers belong to the Rubiaceae family which includes the Bedstraw and Woodruff plants. Many of the folk names of this species are derived from it's clingy nature. The specific name Aparine is derived from the Greek word aparo, to seize. Loveman is another nickname, and is simply an anglicized version of the Greek name Philanthropon, which described this plant's clinging nature.
Ruled by restrictive Saturn, it can be used to bind something close to you, and the Elemental ruler of Water associates it with love and our emotions.
There are two types of spells that come to mind when we think of binding magick.
